At Hunter College, you are more than a student attending classes, writing papers, and preparing for examinations. Your primary reason for being here may be academic, but it does not fully describe you. Participating in athletics and student organizations, reporting on campus issues, working in student government, or performing in theatrical productions also may interest and excite you. Such co-curricular activities are an integral part of your Hunter education, and many are funded, in part, by the Student Activity fee.
At Hunter College, students have many opportunities to participate in activities that are not strictly academic. These extra- and co-curricular activities are fun, and many enrich both the college experience and the post-graduation résumé. Student government, intercollegiate athletics, intramural sports and recreation, publications, clubs, and theatrical productions are some of the activities available at Hunter. Whatever the interest, chances are that other Hunter students like it also and have started a club. If not, Hunter students can complete the process to establish new clubs.
Reflecting the diversity of the Hunter student body, clubs and organizations on campus are multi-faceted and wide-ranging. From the Academia Literaria to the Russian Club, student organizations represent a variety of interests on campus. Current organizations appeal to diverse social and academic interests. A directory of club locations is available on the Student Activities web site, in the USG and GSA offices and in the Office of the Dean of Students, Room 1103, East Building.
Hunter College has two student governments: the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), located in room 121 N, and the Graduate Student Association (GSA), located in room 218 TH. Both offer a wide range of activities and services, such as free movies, a consumer program, concerts, dances, lobbying in Albany and Washington, DC, student conferences, lectures, talent shows, educational and political programs, and discount tickets for off-campus shows and movies. To learn more about these offerings, check out campus bulletin boards or visit the USG or GSA offices.
