ACCESS & TECHNOLOGY CENTER

Under the auspices of the Office of AccessABILITY, the Access & Technology Center offers adaptive technology and individualized computer training for students with disabilities. The adaptive technology is especially helpful to students who have learning disabilities, visual and hearing impairments. Adaptive Equipment
PC and Mac computers offer a range of basic accessibility features and advanced assistive technologies designed to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities.

Software

ZoomText Magnifier/Screen Reader (PC):
software designed specifically to meet the needs of the visually impaired. The ZoomText family includes two adaptive technologies—screen magnification and screen reading—providing complete access to all windows applications.

Jaws (PC): screen reading software that provides access to today’s software applications and the Internet.

Kurzweil 1000: an advanced scanning and reading solution for the blind or visually impaired.

kurzweil 3000 (Mac and PC): a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties.

HEC Reading Horizons Discovering Intensive Phonics Software: reading comprehension software.

Mavis Beacon: a software that teaches typing and improves one’s typing speed and accuracy.

Resume Deluxe: an integrated resume builder and job seeking tool.

Read & Write Gold: helps students with learning disabilities improve their reading and writing skills with a comprehensive set of literacy tools.

Inspiration: a software tool to help students develop ideas and organize their thoughts.

Dragon Naturally Speaking (PC), Via Voice and IListen (Mac): speech recognition software which converts spoken words into computerized text through the use of microphones.
