  • Some summer 2008 classes are posted on the searchable schedule. Consider what is available in summer when you are making decisions about what you will take in spring.
  • Class shuffle! Remember that this week, because of the Thanksgiving holiday Tuesday is on a Thursday class schedule and Wednesday is on a Friday class schedule. Enjoy your holiday!

Ask Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I want to take a spring class at Brooklyn College, but I was told that, as a first-semester freshman, I won’t be able to get an E-Permit for this spring. Why not?

Thanks,
Questioning Qiqi

Dear Questioning:
E-Permits allow you to take courses at other CUNY colleges while you are simultaneously enrolled at Hunter, but there are requirements and rules about when you can do it. You can see all the rules here: http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/subpages/oasispages/oasis_permit.shtml. One of those requirements is that you be in good academic standing, meaning you are not on academic probation, but in order to know whether you are in good academic standing, you need to have grades! As a first-semester freshman, you don’t have any grades yet, and you likely will not have any grades until it is too late to request an E-permit. So, it is not that first-semester freshmen are not allowed to use an E-Permit, but is simply a matter of logistics and timing. Take another semester to fully get the hang of Hunter, and then you can explore all the other CUNYs!

Always,
Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I filled out a FAFSA and received financial aid for this fall. Do I need to fill out another one to get financial aid in the spring?

Sincerely,
Money Minnie

Dear Money:
The short answer is no. If you completed a FAFSA for the 2007-2008 year, and indicated that you were planning to attend college in the fall and spring, they would have packaged your financial aid to cover fall 2007 and spring 2008. If, however, you only indicated that you would be attending in fall, you will have to contact FAFSA and let them know you are attending in spring as well http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Either way, you will need to complete a new FAFSA in spring 2008 to apply for aid in 2008-2009. This application will cover summer 2008-spring 2009, and you must indicate whether or not you will be full-time and which semesters you plan to attend. For more information contact the Financial Aid Office: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/finaid/

Always,
Advisor Alex
