Ask Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I want to register for 2 classes this Winter Session, but eSIMS will only let me register for one. What’s up with that?

Thanks,
Buggin’ Barry

Dear Buggin’:
Just like there is a limit on the number of credits you can take in the spring and fall semesters, there is also a limit on the number of credits you can take in the Winter Session. That limit happens to be 3! It is so low because the Winter Session is so short and each 3 credit class requires attendance 4 days a week for 4 hours at a time, so doing 2 is a lot! That being said, if you have a strong GPA and record of being successful with large credit-loads in the past, you may get permission to take more than 3 credits. For more information and to request permission, see the Course-Overload Permission form here: http://studentservices.hunter.cuny.edu/advising/advising_forms.htm. Turn completed forms into Student Services in 1119E.

Always,
Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I just have one course to complete for graduation, and I am taking it in the Winter Session. Can I participate in the January commencement?

Sincerely,
Finished Fanny

Dear Finished:
Congratulations! If you are registered for your final class in the Winter Session, you may apply for graduation and participate in the January commencement ceremony. Complete a DAAF http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/subpages/forms.shtml, including the classes in progress and the winter class you are scheduled for, have your major department sign and stamp it and turn it into OASIS with a note indicating that your final class is in the Winter Session. They will then begin processing your graduation and your participation in commencement, and will finalize your degree status when the winter course is completed.

For more information about commencement go here: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/news/commencement/faq.shtml

Always,
Advisor Alexa
