Ask Advisor Alex and Other Apt Advice for the Week of December 10, 2007

  • Classes end Wednesday, 12/12. If you want to take a class for a Credit/No Credit grade, you must get the form to your instructor by the last day of class! The forms are available in OASIS or online: http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/subpages/forms.shtml
  • Start studying for finals now! Do not wait until the night before! Your brain will thank you.

Ask Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I am registered for Spring 2008 classes, and am very happy with my schedule. But, as I was going over my GER worksheet to see which requirements I have fulfilled, I noticed that above Category 1 it says: “To be completed within the first 30 credits”. I was planning to take my US History class in the fall, but I will already have 30 credits after this spring. Does that mean I have to rearrange my schedule to fit in the History class now?

Sincerely,
Rearranging Rita

Dear Rearranging:
Don’t panic! You can keep your schedule just the way you have it and take your US History class in the fall. The “To be completed within XX credits” notes on the GER worksheet are guidelines to help you stay on track, and make sure you get enough introductory and pre-requisite courses before you move on to taking upper level courses. They are NOT mandatory and you may take GER courses throughout the completion of your degree. However, we do recommend that you finish most of them by your sophomore year so you have time to focus on your major and minor in your last two years. Hope that eases your mind.

Always,
Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I was just looking over the Academic Calendar. What the heck is Reading Day?

From,
Baffled Bernie

Dear Baffled:
Reading Day is a day off between when classes end and finals start for students to study (read). But don’t wait until then to get started!

Always,
Advisor Alex
