Ask Advisor Alex
Dear Advisor Alex:
I just got offered a great opportunity on the west coast for 6 weeks in March and April. If I don’t take any classes at Hunter in Spring 2008, do I have to apply all over again to come back in the Fall?
Sincerely,
California Carrie
Dear California:
Congratulations! A great opportunity can be worth taking a semester off. Before you go, you should let the financial aid office know you will not be attending nor using your financial aid in the spring to avoid any unnecessary hassle later. Before you return, you will have to apply for Readmission. This is not the same extensive process you went through with CUNY when you originally applied. It is a simpler process that goes through Hunter’s Admissions Office. There is a $10 fee and the deadline to apply for Summer readmission is April 1, and for Fall readmission it is July 1. The form and more information are available here: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/prospectivestudents/ug_students/readmission.shtml
And you can contact Admissions for more information. Best of luck!
Always,
Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I registered for 9 credits, but the fourth class I wanted was full and now registration is closed! I need to be full time in order to get financial aid, but I am only part-time right now, my bill is due January 3 but I can’t become full-time until registration reopens January 9. Now what?
From,
Part-Time Patty
Dear Part-Time:
The first thing you should do is talk to the Financial Aid Office to find out if your expected financial aid will cover you for the first billing cycle, even though your schedule is not complete. It could be that the information about your anticipated aid and the expectation that you will become full-time will be sufficient until classes start and registration closes for good. If this is the case, you will simply need to add classes once registration reopens. If not, you will have to make arrangements to pay your bill by January 3, and get reimbursed once you become full-time and your financial aid kicks in. Talk to Financial Aid now to see what your options are.
Always,
Advisor Alex
