Advisor Alex’s Apt Advice for the Week of September 10, 2007

  • Remember that there are no classes 9/12-9/14, and classes on the following Tuesday, 9/18, will be on a Friday schedule.
  • Things have slowed down in the Office of Advising Services, and appointments are available starting this week. Check the web site for advisor availability or come to Room 1119 East to schedule an appointment: http://studentservices.hunter.cuny.edu/advising/advising_availability.htm

Ask Advisor Alex and Other Apt Advice for the Week of September 10, 2007

  • Can I still drop a class?
  • I’m a freshman and all my classes got cancelled- what do I do?

Dear Advisor Alex:
I took too many classes this semester. What happens if I drop one now? Will I get any money back? Will I have a Withdrawal on my record?

Thanks,
Dropping Drew

Dear Dropping:
The last day to drop a course using eSIMS is Sunday, September 16. If you drop a class by then it will be deleted from your record and will not appear on your transcript. At this point you are only able to get a 25% refund, but if you know for sure you don’t want to take the class, now is the time to drop it. After Sunday, you will have to Withdraw from the class, you will get no refund and the course will be listed as a Withdrawal on your transcript. Registration and payment deadlines are always available at the Registrar’s website: http://registrar.hunter.cuny.edu/index2.shtml.

Always,
Advisor Alex

Dear Advisor Alex:
I am a new freshman, but I registered really late on the last day of registration and didn’t realize I had to pay my bill by the next day! All my classes got cancelled- what do I do now??

Sincerely,
New Ned

Dear New:
Oh no! It is hard, as a new student, to keep up with the tight registration and payment schedule that occurs just before classes start so I sympathize. At this point the process to get registered for your classes again is complicated. Starting in spring may not be such a bad idea, as you will have a much “smoother” start and will have a better course selection. Speak to your First-Year advisor if you want more help with all this: http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/fyso/home.shtml

                                                                                                                                                                                    Always,
Advisor Alex
