GRADES: Credit / No Credit Option (CR/NC)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The Credit / No Credit system is based on the non-letter grades of CR (A, B, C) and NC (D, F).

Several rules apply:

  • You may file for the CR/NC grading option four times during completion of your undergraduate degree. This includes repeated courses.

  • The CR/NC grading option is not available to you if you are on probation.

  • If you earn a course grade of D, you may choose to receive either the D or the NC.

  • If you file for the CR/NC option for a course that does not permit that option, you will receive either a grade of C or a grade of F.

  • The Hunter Senate may approve a department's request to prohibit the CR/NC option for major courses.

Selecting the CR/NC grading option may have negative academic and/or financial consequences. Other colleges, graduate and professional programs, services, and employers may look with disfavor upon the CR/NC grading option and may convert CR to a grade of C and NC to a grade of F for their purposes. In addition, eligibility for some financial aid grants and scholarships may be affected. Speak with your academic and/or financial aid advisor before selecting the CR/NC grading option.

For more information about the CR/NC Option, visit the Registrar and the Office of Financial Aid on-line, or consult the Hunter College Undergraduate Catalog.
