GRADES: Incomplete Grades
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

If you are unable to complete required coursework, such as a final paper or final examination, your instructor may assign a grade of INcomplete, if s/he believes that you have a reasonable chance of passing the course. You must explain the reason to the instructor or, in the absence of the instructor, to the department chair, and arrange a schedule for making up the missing work. These steps should be taken no later than the end of the second week of the following semester.

For more details about the grade of Incomplete, visit the Registrar online, or consult the Hunter College Undergraduate Catalog.

Make-up Final Examinations
If you received a grade of IN (Incomplete) because you were absent from the final examination, your instructor or academic department may allow you to take the make-up final examination on the college's Make-Up Final Examination Day, which is scheduled no later than the Monday of the seventh week of the following semester.

It is your responsibility to:

  • check your Hunter email account for the Registrar's notification of your eligibility to submit the Make-Up Final Examination Application.

  • determine if your instructor/department will allow you to have your final examination administered by the college.

  • print, complete and submit the necessary Make-Up Final Examination Application (PDF), available on-line and in the Office of Student Services, 1119 East Building, to the Office of Student Services

  • pay the required fee to the Bursar, 238 North Building.

The Make-Up Final Examination Application will be available the first week of the semester in which the make-up final examination will be administered by the college. Visit the Academic Calendar for more information.
