SERVICES: Career Counseling

Counselors explore and evaluate the students’ education, training, work history, interests, skills, and personal traits to assist in choosing a major and career.

One-On-One Counseling
Students can make individual appointments with a career counselor to help identify and explore personal and professional goals, resolve confusion, and aid in decision making regarding choosing a major and a career.

Discover Program
Use the DISCOVER career guidance and information system, to identify those careers that will provide you with optimum personal satisfaction. Discover possible career choices that suit your interests, skills, and personal traits. Let a career counselor help you interpret your results. Please note that, in order to access DISCOVER, you must schedule an appointment with a career counselor at Career Development Services, 805 Hunter East. The career counselor will provide you with your User ID and further instruction on how to use DISCOVER.

To use DISCOVER after you have seen the career counselor:

1. Enter this URL: http://www.act.org/discover/login/ in your browser window address box.
2. In the User ID box, type the given User ID, then click on the submit button.
3. You will be asked to create a password. Type your password and press enter.
4. You can use DISCOVER at any time, from any Internet connection with your user ID and password.

Résumé Preparation
Counselors are available to work one on one with students to prepare the résumé and cover letter.

Interview Skills
Prepare for interviews with the use of Perfect Interview, an innovative software program that allows the student to develop and practice interview skills. Students can view hundreds of video recorded interviews and create and replay their own, and meet for a one on one “mock interview” with a counselor.

Job Search Skills
Counselors help students develop winning strategies for their job search.
