Presidential Fellowship in External Affairs at Hunter College– Apply Now!!!
The President of Hunter College is looking for a recent Hunter College graduate (June 2008 graduates may apply) to join her staff as a Presidential Fellow.  The full-time paid position in the area of External Affairs offers an exciting opportunity for the Fellow to work in the areas of government and community relations at Hunter.  The Office of External Affairs acts as the liaison on behalf of the President and the College to city, state and federal officials, as well as community groups, neighborhood institutions and  organizations, museums, hospitals, policy centers and residential neighbors. The office is responsible for creating and maintaining strong relations and communications with said groups. The Presidential Fellow would assist with all major external projects—including, but not limited to, the College’s current expansion initiatives.

Fulbright Grant 2009-2010 – Information Session: Thursday, May 8, 2008
Graduating by 2009? Or in graduate school?  Thinking of going abroad to study, teach English or do research?  Learn about opportunities through the U.S. Student Fulbright Program.

A Fulbright Grant may offer you the opportunity to study, work and live in the country of your choice for one year.  Hunter students have gone on to study anthropology in Thailand, religion in Germany, paint in the Philippines, work in a non- governmental organization in Malawi, or teach English in Turkey, Germany and Argentina, among many other countries.  The session will be led by Myrna Fader, Hunter’s Fulbright Program Adviser.  For information about the U.S. Student Program, visit:

Tylenol Scholarships: All Students in Health-Related Fields Deadline: May 15*
Awards will be made to undergraduate and graduate students who intend to major or are majoring in health-related fields.  Applicants will be judged on leadership qualities and academic performance.  Scholarships of $1000 and $5000 will be awarded to 170 students. Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship – Deadline: May 19, 2008
Applications are now available for the Charlotte W. Newcombe Scholarship.  Eligible students must be undergraduate women, 25 years of age and older, who have or will have completed by the end of this semester 60 credits toward their degree. Applicants must have taken at least 24 credits at Hunter with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Part-time students and international students are eligible to apply for the scholarship. All applicants must demonstrate financial need by completing the FAFSA, www.fafsa.ed.gov Charlotte W. Awards vary; last year the average award was $2000.  Applications must be submitted to the Office of the Dean of Students, Room 1103 East by May 19, 2008.

Scholarship Opportunities for Hispanic Students*
There are a significant number of scholarship and academic opportunities targeted to Hispanic students.  They should acquaint themselves with the Hispanic College Fund, www.hispanicfund.org and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, www.hsf.net.  Both organizations sponsor many scholarships with varied deadlines throughout the year. The New York Conference of Puerto Rican Women, The New York City Chapter, www.nacoprwnyc.org is sponsoring its 2008 College Awards; Deadline: May 31st.  This organization is seeking students with an interest in leadership.

Rose Biller/UJA-Federation Scholarships – Deadline: June 16, 2008
The Hebrew Free Loan Society has announced that the application period for their scholarships for Jewish men and women undergraduate and graduate students with significant financial need is now open.  A variety of scholarships of up to $5000 will be awarded for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Students are encouraged to complete their FAFSA as early as possible in order to be considered for the awards. Demonstrated financial need is the primary criterion for the awarding of the scholarship. Applicants must submit the Financial Aid Assessment Form to the OASIS, Room 217 North, well in advance of the June 16, 2008 deadline.

BEST Program Recruitment - Nursing and Pre-Nursing Students + Scholarship
The Becoming Excellent Students in Transition to Nursing (BEST) Program at Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing is currently recruiting students.  The program is designed to assist students seeking admission to the School of Nursing.

The BEST Program offers:

  • Academic Support (diagnostic testing, tutoring, and college skills workshops)
  • Enrichment Activities (guest lectures, self-learning curriculum, review sessions)
  • Financial Support (stipends and scholarships to students with demonstrated need)
  • Mentoring
  • Personal and Emotional Support (confidential counseling on academic and personal issues, program workshops and social events)
  • Employment Opportunities (positions as peer tutors, peer counselors, high school tutors)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be full-time Hunter College students with an interest in applying to the School of Nursing
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must file a 2008-09 FAFSA and meet federal funding guidelines.  Stipends and scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need.
  • Open to first-generation immigrant and/or under-represented minority students

The BEST Program is targeted at students who will be applying to the School of Nursing in March 2009 and at students who will enter the School of Nursing in Fall 2008. 

Male students are encouraged to apply.
