Grade Point Average(GPA)

How to Calculate Your GPA

PLEASE NOTE: PLUS/MINUS (+/-) GRADES FOR UNDERGRADUATES ARE CALCULATED BEGINNING SPRING 2000. Prior to that term the calculated grades were A,B,C,D,F. The pluses and minuses were not calculated, even if present.

              Quality
GRADE          Points
   A+ =         4.0
   A  =         4.0
   A- =         3.7
   B+ =         3.3
   B  =         3.0
   B- =         2.7
   C+ =         2.3
   C  =         2.0
   D  =         1.0
 F.FIN,WU =     0.0

Example:
           12 cr of A  grades = 	48.0 Quality Points
            0 cr of A- grades =  	 0.0 Quality Points
            9 cr of B+ grades = 	24.3 Quality Points
	   18 cr of B  grades = 	54.0 Quality Points
            6 cr of B- grades =		16.2 Quality Points
	    3 cr of C+ grades =		 6.9 Quality Points
	   24 cr of C  grades = 	48.0 Quality Points
            6 cr of D  grades =  	 6.0 Quality Points
            3 cr of F  grades =  	 0.0 Quality Points

  Total = 81 Index credits 203.4 Quality Points
DIVIDE the Total number of Quality Points by the Total number of INDEX Credits

203.4 / 81 = 2.511 GPA.

If you do this for a term (Spring Summer or Fall), this is your TERM GPA. Your Term or semester GPA determines whether or not you have made Dean's List. (GPA of 3.5 or above)

If you calculate your grades for all terms at Hunter, that will be your Cumulative GPA

Your Cumulative GPA determines your academic standing i.e. whether you are to receive General College Honors or if you will be put on or taken off Probation or will be Dismissed. Check your GPA once or twice a term.
