PROGRAMS: Hillels of New York Trip to The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum
Each year the New York area Hillels sponsor a trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. The purpose of the trip is to share the experience of the Jewish people in the Holocaust with students of color in order to forge a better understanding of this historical event and to work together on campus to prevent any forms of prejudice, hatred, and bigotry, as well as working together to fight modern-day “genocidal” behavior around the world. All students who are interested in attending must register with the Office of Student Activities, East 1108 or 1131 or the Hillel Lounge, Thomas Hunter 501. Guidelines for the New York Area Hillels Trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Sponsors
SPONSORS: The New York area Hillels is sponsoring a trip to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC. This event is made possible by the generosity of David and Linda Taub. David and Linda Taub established the Student Holocaust Museum Endowment Fund to encourage both Jewish and non-Jewish students to learn together about this significant period in history. PURPOSE OF THE TRIP: Linda and David Taub know that it is important for students to study history in order to appreciate its impact on the present. However, they recognize that for college students, understanding history must do more than chronicle the past. By learning its lessons, history can help young people to shape the future. PARTICIPANTS: Jewish students and students of color of traditional college age (18-26). Approximately half of the 98 students and staff will be Jewish, and the other half will be students and staff of color. RECRUITMENT: A Professional from the Hillel staff or the Student Activities office on each campus is asked to recruit, interview, publicize, and be in charge of all the necessary details of the trip for their students, and their school. In order to better recruit underrepresented students, letters are sent to the local college Dean of Students and Student Life departments asking for their assistance. SIGNING UP: To sign up visit the Office of Student Activities, East 1108 or 1131 or the Hillel Lounge, Thomas Hunter 501.
