The process of evaluating your credits from your previous schools begins for admitted students as soon as you indicate that you will attend Hunter College on the MyChoice web site. Please note that until you confirm attendance on MyChoice, the Transfer Credit Evaluation Unit of Admission will not begin to review your transcripts. Transfers Need a Little CPR
By Dr. Case Willoughby, Director of Advising Services

We at Hunter want to do everything possible to support your success!  CPR stands for Connect – Plan – Research, three vital ways for you to forge your unique path to success at Hunter.

CONNECT.  At a large school like Hunter, connecting to faculty, staff and students is vital to your success. Try these tips when you start. Faculty. Use professors’ office hours to: discuss topics for research assignments; ask questions about the class; and discuss possible majors. Staff. We have advisors, career counselors, personal counselors, financial aid counselors, and other support services, just to help you.  Students.  Form study groups in your classes or check out the article below on Student Activities. Knowing other students will motivate you and make college fun.

PLAN.  The future is yours, but only if you make the time for it.  Many transfers find academic work at Hunter to be more challenging than they expected. Don’t worry! You can do it, but you need to be ready. The general rule is for each credit, plan to spend at least 2 hours per week in study outside of class. So for a 15 credit load, that’s 30 hours per week to read, study, write papers, do lab reports and prepare for exams.  Find more information at the Center for Student Achievement.

RESEARCH.  The first thing to research is you. During your first semester you should check out some critical resources at Hunter that will help you make important decisions. Talk to faculty in the possible majors. Discuss interests and requirements with advisors. Meet with Career Development Services about career options and internships. This kind of research should be a fun process of self-discovery, and the earlier you start, the better your Hunter experience will be!

So, a little CPR will revive your interest in learning, help you set your goals, and keep you motivated all the way from now until graduation!

Student Activities at Hunter College
by Jerrell Robinson, Assistant Director of Student Activities

At Hunter College, you are more than a student attending classes, writing papers, and preparing for exams. Participating in athletics and student organizations can be an integral part of your Hunter education.

Co-curricular activities are fun and enrich both the college experience and the post-graduation résumé. Student government, intercollegiate athletics, intramural sports and recreation, publications, clubs, and theatrical productions are some of the activities available at Hunter to meet nearly every interest.

A directory of club locations is available on the Student Activities web site, in the Undergraduate Student Government office (121 N) and in the Office of the Dean of Students, Room 1103, East Building.

Want to learn the answers to these questions and more?  Be sure to attend your Transfer Student Orientation and Advising Date!!

Athletics, Intramurals & Recreation – A Great Way to Connect!
Rita Tolan, Hunter ‘05

A great way to become part of the Hunter Community is to become involved with the Athletics, Intramural, and Recreation program. As a former student athlete and a current Hunter graduate student and Assistant Swim Coach, it is easy for me to call Hunter home. I made lifelong friends through the program and there are many ways you can have a similar experience.

Our Recreation and Intramural programs are open to all Hunter students and include use of the excellent facilities (pool, weight room, racquetball courts, and more) and classes such as aerobics, yoga, and martial arts. Previous intramural events have included flag football, soccer, basketball, and the mile swim.

Joining a Hunter Athletic team is another way to connect with the Hunter Community. To be eligible, you need to be a full-time matriculated student (12 or more credits), and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0. Hunter has 18 teams including Volleyball, Tennis, Cross Country, Basketball, Fencing, Track and Field, Soccer, Wrestling, Swimming, and Softball.

And finally, get a group of Hunter students together to come out and cheer on your fellow Hunter Hawks!  The schedules for each team and full information about the Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation program can be found on our web site. (http://www.hunter.cuny.edu/athletics/)  See you at the game!
